Day 5: Describe your Day as a Buzzfeed “Listicle”

October 12, 2014
You’ve seen “Buzzfeed.com”, yeah?

  • “22 of the realest generation Y problems”.
  • “50 things you never knew about The Wire”.
  • “19 things that can only happen online”

… and so on. Dull, isn’t it?

Write up your own day as a Buzzfeed “listicle” (that’s what they call those things, seriously). Bonus points for a proper click-baity headline.

Once I figured out the lingo and the visual for today’s assignment (no small task!), I was able to create my own “listicle” of my day. Since I’m completing this task Sunday morning, I created my listicle based on what I did yesterday. After breakfast, we watched a small red squirrel chase away a larger grey squirrel from a feeder, so I had to fit that into my list somehow.

I’m discovering that the hardest part about these assignments is getting started. I have to acclimate myself to this unfamiliar digital-based language, but once I do, I have fun with these tasks. Once again, I’m glad that Shelley forced us to interact with digital media using this Daily Create web site; such activities get my “creative juices” flowing, pulling me out of my academic rut. That, of course, causes me to rethink how I interact with my own students and pushes me to try to think of activities I can incorporate into my lesson plans to jump-start their thinking. I’m sure I’ll be checking in with the Daily Create gang periodically from now on!
