Day 2: Don’t Describe #wire106

October 9, 2014
That @jimgroom (and @paulbond) are running “Wire106″, all about TV drama “The Wire”. They love that show. Bless ‘em. Describe “The Wire” in a way that is almost entirely lies.  Aim to entirely confuse any person who hasn’t seen “The Wire”. If *you* haven’t seen the wire DON’T LOOK IT UP!

The Tooth behind the Wire

It hurts. But main character Ruthless Toothless won’t admit it. He is, after all, supposed to be a toothless dragon. If the others found out that he was taking monthly trips to the orthodontist, his tough-guy persona would be lost. His handler Burp has no trouble sneaking him away in the dead of night since Ruthless Toothless is the color of the midnight sky, but just last episode, Burp and Ruthless Toothless were almost caught when Asteroid spotted them adjusting one errant wire after returning from the orthodontist just before dawn. The sneaky duo just pretended that they were saving sea creatures from traps and a wire had come loose from the crab pot. Burp had to find a large amount of wax to cover the braces and to keep the wire from cutting into Ruthless Toothless’s mouth without arousing Asteroid’s suspicions. Look for this coming week’s episode to reveal whether an emergency trip to the orthodontist will be necessary if the wax doesn’t do the trick. But how will Burp and Ruthless Toothless get away one night now that the fall racing season has begun? Tune in to find out.

Response

This exercise was more engaging because I was given a loose starting point and then told to make something which would confuse someone else. Since I am not familiar with this show, I began in a state of confusion, so I had no trouble completing this assignment. Since my book Remediation discusses a movie called The Wire in which people wear a wire and can feel what others are feeling (a sort of ultimate virtual reality), I surmised that now a TV show has appeared about the same concept, but I wasn’t sure. And since I was instructed to confuse a viewer, I tried to stay as far away from that concept as possible. My brainstorms on the concept of a wire began with a coat hanger but evolved to those painful wires that orthodontists use in braces. Once I got to that point, I just ran with the concept.
