In the Production Process

Remediation is everywhere! From newer versions of older movies to stage performances turned into films, remediation has been around since humans began recording information whether audibly or visually. In the extreme, remediation has brought Tupac and Michael Jackson “back to life” through holograms.

In our attempts to create anything that is “new and improved,” we must realize that both creator and audience rely on the media of the past. The only way we can accept the remediated forms of Michael Jackson and Tupac is because we understand the media of the past (television, stage performances, even Holograms as depicted in the 1970s Star Wars movies). If we failed to acknowledge those previous forms of media and we knew that these two performers were dead, we would have a serious mental break.
